The Silence

the silence official poster

Release year: 2019

Director: John R. Leonetti

Screenwriter: Carey Van Dyke, Shane Van Dyke, Tim Lebbon (based on the novel by)

Starring: Stanley Tucci, Kiernan Shipka, Miranda Otto, Kate Trotter, John Corbett, Kyle Breitkopf, Billy MacLellan

When the world is suddenly attacked by terrifying blind creatures hunting by sound, a fleeing family finds a strength in the fact that their daughter is deaf, and they are used to live in silence.

First introducing the outburst of the creatures and then the family struck by a recent accident, The Silence moves into a steady pace of the family fleeing and attempting to survive. While not the best story and with plot holes, the movie is saved by an excellent cast with especially Tucci (The Hunger Games, 2012) and Shipka (Flowers in the Attic, 2014) impressing. Situations appear which keeps the tension going and with the focus being held on the family and the said/unsaid things between them, the movie keeps you hooked. A decent horror thriller with a stellar cast.

Moviegeek info:

Kiernan Shipka and Miranda Otto, who plays mother and daughter, also played together in the Netflix TV-series Chilling Adventure of Sabrina Spellman, where Otto played aunt Zelda to Shipka’s Sabrina.
