Self-centered lawyer Gordon Bombay (Estevez) is sentenced to service as coach to a terrible youth hockey team as community service. Bombay has a history with ice hockey and working with the kids reminds him of how much he used to love the sport.
Sports comedies are the perfect way to make movies with a morale of teamwork and this Disney 1990’s classic is no exception. Estevez (The Breakfast Club, 1985), with his young look, is a good match for the selfish lawyer acting like a spoiled brat and he is convincing as the coach slowly bonding with the misfit kids. The kids all does a great job which in one getting to play on each their strength. It’s lightheaded entertainment but it is entertainment and will bring genuine laugh to young and old.
Some of the young actors who claimed when they auditioned that they could play hockey were in fact lying and had to be trained before filming began.
