Emmet is an ordinary guy working as a construction worker and wanting nothing more than to be liked by his friends. When he stumbles across a mysterious brick he is suddenly whisked away by Wyldstyle on a far more adventurous trip than he could ever have dreamed, or wanted. Because Emmet may be more than the regular guy he strives to be, he may be the chosen one, destined to save the world.
Just like the Oscar-nominated song from the movie everything is awesome in this movie, awesomely crazy and awesomely fun. Well, most of it anyway. The details in it is so rich that it takes several viewings to spot everything going on and the care the team behind the movie has put into, not just making it look awesome, but also coming up with inventive ways to show the world Lego-style is awesome! Besides looking great The Lego Movie is a wide variety of crazy, awesome, sweet, funny and out-of-this-world brilliant characters as well as high-speed action sequences keeping the speed up. Emmet is a delightul anti-hero, a true everyday-man thrown into exceptionelly awesome adventures. Despite being the animated version of a square plastic figure he is surprisingly relatable and gives plenty of heart to the story. Wyldstyle is just plain awesone, until character development allows us to look behind the tough surface and shows the insecurities she has, unlike her boyfriend, Batman, who stays cool and confident all the way through delivering some of the best moments in the movie with his dark raspy voice, attitude and tendency to pop up everywhere at everytime. Though a great vilian, especially when stepping into his towering Lord form, President Business must mostly find himself overshadowed by the excellent and schizophrenic Bad Cop/Good Cop who just as the awesome Unikitty are some of the smaller supporting characters you are most likely to be talking about after the movie. Towards the end the movie makes a shift with debatable results. While it gives an edge to the movie in form of a different perspective, it also adds some sugar sweet morality where you could kinda wish the awsomeness would just have continued without instead. However, it is not enough to stop us from recommending this awesome Lego adventure that is made in true Lego spirit – inspiring unlimited fantasy when playing and it is simply: Awesome!
