The Christmas Chronicles
Release year: 2018
Director: Clay Kaytis
Screenwriter: Matt Lieberman, David Guggenheim
Starring: Kurt Russell, Judah Lewis, Darby Camp, Vella Lovell, Jameson Kraemer, Oliver Hudson, Kimberly Williams-Paisley
After the death of their father (Hudson), Kate (Camp) and Terry (Lewis) fight all the time, much to distress of their hard-worked mother (Williams-Paisley). One Christmas Eve when they are home alone, Kate blackmails Terry into helping her catch Santa Claus on camera. It will be a night they will never forget.
The Christmas Chronicles manage to stay old-school with a fresh twist in shape of an updated, cool Santa Claus. Pretty much the perfect recipe for a family friendly Holiday film. Both kids do a great job, but the poor things must see themselves overshadowed by Russell (Escape From L.A., 1996) in a Santa personation which will instantly end up on the favourite Santa performances of many. Classic yet cool, Russell has obviously had fun with his role and rocks as the jolly fellow as he perfectly balances legend and humanity and even manage to throw in a killer music number. Is it predictable? Yes. But as long as the road to the end is so adventurous and humorous, who cares! Pure Christmas magic for anyone looking for that Holiday cheer.
Santa’s list includes several of Kurt Russell’s real life grandchildren.
