After breaking up with the bride’s brother (Russell), Eloise (Kendrick) goes from maid of honor duty to being placed at the ‘loser’ table at the wedding of her long-time friend. But as the party begins, the very different persons at table 19 starts opening to each other and learn from each other.
It is likely you haven’t heard about this quirky little comedy drama, which is a shame. Because while it may be a bit plain it certainly has charm, much like a standard wedding cake lifted by some frosting and a few decorations. Kendrick (Up in the Air, 2009) is always worth watching while Revolori (The Grand Budapest Hotel, 2014) perfect as the quiet geek looking for a romance in a fur butterfly. But everyone at the table is great. Squibb (Nebraska, 2013) a delight as the bride’s old nanny, tall Merchant (Hall Pass, 2011) a hoot as the socially awkward cousin to the bride while Kudrow (Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion, 1997) and Robinson (Hot Tub Time Machine, 2010) brilliant as the constantly bickering married couple. As secrets are revealed the story develops in somewhat surprising ways and has several heart-warming moments as the group of unlikely friends bond over their problems. Quirky and charming.
Jeffrey Blitz‘s first feature since Rocket Science (2007), which also starred Anna Kendrick. It was one of her first film roles.
