Young and brash James T. Kirk (Chris Pine) and level-headed Spock (Zachary Quinto) butt heads but must fight together against the time-travelling Romulan Nero (Eric Bana), hell bent on revenge for the destruction of his home planet.
J.J. Abram’s new take on the almost 50-year-old Star Trek franchise is a fresh and above all entertaining space adventure. The familiar crew on the USS Enterprise have been recast to what seems like perfection. This is not simply a space-ships-shooting-at-one-another sort of flick, but rather a fun (as well as funny) and moving story of friendship, Family, and revenge. The two leading men, Jim Kirk and Spock, have both grown up in the shadow of their parents; Kirk as the son of a hero who gave his life to save 800 others, and Spock as the son of a Vulcan father and a human mother who is frequently bullied or viewed as disadvanged as a child because of his mixed heritage. The must both overcome this as well as their animosity towards each other to lead a team of inexperienced cadets aboard the Enterprise. The result is a thrilling and fun ride that is recommended to anyone who likes a great adventure film.
In order to perfect Zachary Quinto’s Vulcan salute the director J.J. Abrams glued his fingers together.
