An experimental army robot is struck by lightning which wakes intelligence in the little guy. He escapes the lab and befriends animal care-giver Stephanie (Sheedy) but the lab is looking for their robot.
Short Circuit is one of those sweet and predictable movies which can be enjoyed by the entire family without any danger. Led by 1980s stars Sheedy (The Breakfast Club, 1985) and Guttenberg (Cocoon, 1985) as well as a brilliant and unrecognizable Stevens (Only You, 1994) convincing as Indian sidekick Ben entertaining with his constant misunderstanding of how to use English phrases and Bailey (Police Academy, 1984) playing angry as he does best. While the cast is good, the real star is off course the robot Nr. 5. Clumsy and dated to today’s eyes, it still possesses charm and brings energy to a movie that will charm and entertain young as well as old.
The movie spawned a sequel, Short Circuit 2 (1988), where Fisher Stevens returns as well as Tim Blaney as the voice of the robot.
