Five best friends from college reunite for a bachelorette weekend in Miami when Jess (Johansosn) takes a break from her political campaign to celebrate her forthcoming wedding. But things soon get out of hand.
Feature film debut of Aniello is a movie falling in the category of bachelor(ette)-party-gone-wrong, where you also find movies like The Hangover (2009) and Bachelor Party (1984). Trying to be a pure comedy, the middle part gets too serious for that to work, but it luckily lifts itself up again in the last part. The movie spots something of an ensemble cast, led by Johansson (The Avengers, 2012) and with comic actresses McKinnon (Ghostbusters, 2016) and Bell (22 Jump Street, 2014) there to ensure the laughs. But the movie is a bit unfocused and the talent not used nearly as good as it could. It becomes hard to keep sympathy with the girls as they take one bad decision after another and one of the funniest parts end up being how the movie play with gender generalization, led by the groom-to-be played by the screenwriter Downs (Ghost Team, 2016). Good for a few laughs, but not nearly as good as it could have been.
Filming took place in Long Beach, California, in October 2016, while the pier restaurants and bars of Hermosa Beach, California, were used as stand-ins for Miami nightlife.
