Security guard Ben (Kevin Hart) dreams of becoming a cop and hopefully gain the respect of his girlfriend Angela’s (Tika Sumpter) overprotective cop brother James (Ice Cube). James never thought Ben was good enough for his precious sister so when Ben asked for his approval of him marrying Angela, James takes a last shot at scarrying him away by offering him to ride along with him in the police car for one day.
A classic buddy cop movie (though only half a buddy cop as one of them is a security guard) wins by Hart’s (Get Hard, 2015) charmingly goofy character rimming with enthuiasm despite not bringning anything new to the table. Cube (22 Jump Street, 2014) plays tough guy as usual without managing quite the same degree of humour as he did in the Jump Street movies, coming of as slightly stiff in his acting. One of the most pleasant surprise in the movie is Sumpter (What’s Your Number, 2011) whose Angela seems warm and rich and the scenes where she is present work the best. A fun and enjoyable flick.
Kevin Hart’s character is considered short but he is in fact only 4.5 inches shorter than Ice Cube.
