After year after last time, Ben Barber (Kevin Hart) is about to marry James Payton’s (Ice Cube) sister Angela (Tika Sumpter) and has just joined the police force. Eager to prove his worth he talks James in to taking him along as a partner on a mission to Miama, helped by Angela begging her brother to let her have a break from Ben in the middle of the wedding plans.
The director of the first Ride Along (2014), and the third one announced, returns for more action-paked humour with fast-talking Hart (Get Hard, 2015) bickering on with future brother-in-law Ice Cube (21 Jump Street, 2012). This time they are away from homeground but it is still Jason who is in charge with the eager Ben occasionally excelling inbetween the ususal dumb mistakes. They are quickly joined by local detective Maya, a great Munn (Deliver Us From Evil, 2014), who as a female version of Jason brings balance when it turns out the star witness they are stuck with, a funny Jeong (The Hangover, 2009), is kinda like an Asian version of Ben. The four all deliver energy to a script that brings them in several situation to have you laugh while Bratt (Miss Congeniality, 2000) is a convincing as a smooth-talking vilain. Gives you what it promises.
The title “Ride 2gether” was strongly considered but they chose to remain with the original title.
