Catherine (Julie Gayet) refuses to believe that her unlikable business partner has a real friend and challenges him to introduce his best friend before the end of the month.
What is a real friend and how do you get one? These are some of the questions succesful antiques dealer François (Auteuil) is forced to answer for the first time in his life, when his business partner challenges him over his lack of friends. We quickly realise that what he counts as friend are merely business aquaintances and as this occurs to him as well he realises how lonely he is. The employs the help of a talkative taxi driver (Dany Boon) who seems get along well with everyone. The rest of the plot is best left untold; it suffices to say that it takes a while for François to learn what real friendship is. Auteuil (Au nom de ma fille, 2016) is great as a cluelessly unsympathetic man who is much more interested in things than people, and he is in great company with a very funny Dany Boon (Bienvenue chez les Ch’tis, 2008). A lovely feel good film about true friendship. A topic not dealt with enough in films!
In 2008 Wes Anderson was hired to write a script or an English language version of the film. The script tentatively called The Rosenthaler Suite, but the film has not been made.
