upcoming2upcoming1upcoming3

Horror is a genre that has been prolific since the early days of movie history and fortunately for horror fans, the genre still offers a plentitude of new releases each year. Here we take a look of five releases spanning later this month all the way to September next year. Most are based on familiar material – but they are interesting ones.

heck out the list below and let us know in the comments below what you think. Which horror movies in the coming year are you looking forward to the most.

Halloween (October, 2018)

.

The first entry on our list is probably one of the most talked about reboots in recent memory. Michael Myers comes home for Halloween yet again and this time around original victim Jamie Lee Curtis returns. Even though this is the 11th film in the franchise, it still looks like it has a lot going for it. The film ignores the little loved 2007 reboot and its sequel and director of the original Halloween (1978) is involved as composer and executive producer. Check out the trailer below and judge for yourself.

Suspiria (November, 2018)

.

A remake that might outrage some is this new version of Dario Argento’s 1977 classic. The story of a young woman and a very sinister dance school is considered a masterpiece of Italian surreal horror and one of the those classics that only the very daring or careless will attempt to remake. But this actually looks pretty good and with a cast that includes Dakota Johnson, Tilda Swinton, and Chloê Grace Moretz who can resist giving it a go? It has done one thing right already by releasing good enticing trailer that doesn’t give away the whole thing.

Pet Sematary (April, 2019)

An upcoming remake that will excite Stephen King fans inn particular is Kevin Kölsch and Dennis Widmeyer’s remake of Pet Sematary (1989) based on one of King’s best loved novels. The original adaptation is a good King movie but it has plenty of potential to feed a new version. First of all the story is a strong. It has great characters, a shock beginning, a spooky setting, universal themes, and a plot that goes to a very dark place. What more could you want? With Jason Clarke and John Lithgow leading the cast, I for one am totally on board.

The New Mutants (August, 2019)

There have been lost of Superhero movies in the last decade and the vast majority of them have been good or great, but now we see the first Superhero horror movie. Made by Fox, who still has the rights to Marvel’s X-men and do not seem willing to hand the rights back any time soon, the film follow 5 new mutants who find themselves trapped in a sinister research facility. The trailer look good with a chilling rendition of Pink Floyd’s “Another Brick in the Wall”  to boot and promises tense horror action X-en style. The film was made long ago and it’s release date has been shuffled around. Currently the film is set to be released August of next year, which is about time considering that the first trailer was released 11 months ago.

It: Chapter 2 (September 2019)

What is this? Another Stephen King adaptation on the list? Yes, indeed. How could we not include the conclusion to what turned out to be the highest crossing horror movie of all time. Following the highly succesful It (2017) which was not only a really good horror movie but a great Stephen King adaptation, expectations for the second chapter are sky-high. King’s massiv novels switches between the Losers Club’s first and second battle with Pennywise set thirty years apart. Andy Muschietti wisely chose to make a two part adaptation, one dealing with the first battle and one with Pennywise’s vengeful return. However, glimpses of our heroes as kids will still occur. But on top of this the cast for the adult version of the Losers Club is great and includes James McAvoy, Jessica Chastain, and Bill Hader. Needless to say, Bill Skarsgaard will return as Pennywise. Yikes!
