Popular actions fims often win our hearts with memorable characters who can deliver cool one-liners, so naturally fans are always happy to see them return to the screen for another round of kick-ass action! We have compiled a list of 5 action sequels well worth your time if you liked the series first intallment. Enjoy!

Let us know in the comments below what your favourite action sequels are!

Lethal Weapon 2 (1989)

When re-watching the first in I’m Getting Too Old-franchise, you are surprised by how dark it is. This is probably mainly because the longer we came in the franchise, the more light-hearted they got. Here, in the second, the mood is still gloomy and while it may not be best remembered for the movie introducing Joe Pesci’s brilliantly pain-in-the-butt character Leo Getz, who returned for both the third and the fourth movie, it is the movie providing the perhaps best remembered scene in the franchise. The bathroom scene. Poor Murtaugh who we have already heard saying in one movie how he is too old for this shit, gets caught on the toilet with a bomb threatening to explode if he gets up. You may not remember which movie it was in (it was in this), but you remember it and Riggs’s laughter when he realize the situation.

Another 48 Hours (1990)

A sequel to an action movie starring Eddie Murphy? The first to come to mind may be Beverly Hills Cop 2 (1987), the franchise forever made legend by its incredibly catchy lead character theme. But don’t forget this equally amusing but slightly darker two-movie franchise, where Murphy showed great chemistry with Nick Nolte. The first movie, 48 Hours (1982), was the first acting part for the comedian, but this time around he is the bigger star, not that it shows. The two ease back into some of their best characters and with the same leverage they had before, delivering an action comedy that makes you sorry the planned third movie was never materialized.

Terminator 2: Judgement Day (1991)

Yes, this is the second movie in the Terminator franchise and many would argue it is also the best! The evil robot returns as the hero, Sarah Connor is buffed up and ready to war and John Connor is a squeaky kid making us all thrilled at the thought of owning our very own T-800. In other words: What’s not to like! Oh, and did we mention it won an astonishing (for an action blocknuster) four Oscar awards?

The Expendables 2 (2012)

When Sylvester Stallone decided to gather as many stars from his own heyday and even adding some of today’s action stars, he practically made every action fan start jumping with excitement, especially those who consumed all the great action that came out in the 1980s. No one complained when he returned with a sequel to 2010’s action romp, this time he had even convinced Jean-Claude Van Damme to bring his famous splits and talked legendary Chuck Norris into delivering one of the best cameos in recent time. Epic.

John Wick: Chapter 2 (2017)

Considering how many complain he can’t act, Keanu Reeves has not just managed to star in one of the greatest sci-fi action franchise of the 1990s (Matrix, if you wonder), he is also well on his way to create a new great franchise with his one-man-army action hero John Wick. Cool and collected he makes the best use of the martial art skills he must have picked up in the 1990s and the unstoppable John Wick is about as far from the dumb Ted character which made him famous.
