Tom (Kutcher) and Sarah (Murphy) are happily in love and so certain that their love will last that they marry fast and young. But will their love survive their honeymoon to Europe?
One of the first feature film from Shawn Levy (Night at the Museum, 2006) shows the promise of the director’s career of creating charming comedies. After a quick set-up about the young lovers, the movie takes of to one funny scene after another, after the newly-weds go to Europe on what turns out to be the honeymoon from hell. A brilliant casting helps tremendously to the likability of the movie, with both Kutcher (A Lot Like Love, 2005) and Murphy (Clueless, 1995) oozing charm. Kutcher can come of as goofy but seems like such a nice guy, that it is easy to buy him as a romantic lead and Murphy is just one we lost far too soon, with promise of such a great career lost forever. The two suits each other, the have a strong connection that makes their love seem authentic and they play their parts with sympathy. The movie is a nice mixture of slap-stick humour, romance and emotional moments and should be able to be enjoyed by most. A charming movie with two charming characters and a pleasantly funny story of love and about how sometimes you must fight for it.
Christian Kane who plays Peter is also the lead singer of the band Kane. Their song “The Chase” can be heard playing in the background of the Café American.
