A woman asks her former lover to help her when a violent gang comes to kill her outlaw husband.
The title and the poster might lead you to think this is an action-packed gunslinger flick, but that would be a mistake. This is really more of a Western drama, exploring the past relationship between Portman (Thor, 2011) and Edgerton (Black Mass, 2015), but cuminating a good gunfight with Ewan McGregor’s bad guy. The narrative is split up by plenty of flashback; the aggravating kind that is jumbled and confused. Despite its narrative drawbacks, the actor do well and we care enough about their characters to stick with them till the end. A sombre Western drama with a romantic edge. Not for everyone but good for what it is.
Bradley Cooper was originally cast as the villain but had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts. Tobey Maguire, Josepg Gordon-Levitt, and Tom Hiddleston was considered and Jake Gyllenhaal was offered the part, but refused it.
