Three friends, working in housekeeping in a hotel, are close to getting the finances needed for creating the video game the thought up when their possible benefactor (Ambudkar) is taken hostage during a hotel party. Now the trio is forced to save the day to get the cash.
Game Over reunite the three actors from hit comedy TV series Workaholics with a script from Holm (The Intern, 2015) who also stars as one of the three hapless friends. With the two others being Devine (Pitch Perfect, 2012) and Anderson (Dope, 2015) the tone is set for this far-out comedy happily trying constantly to find the lines for what is funny and what is gross and mostly managing to stay on the right side. None of the three leads are bound to become your new heroes and especially Devine’s character is annoying but a bit of growth saves the day together with a mixture of Home Alone and Die Hard and some great cameos (Shaggy being the best). It is dumb fun to kill some time.
The title of the film is a reference to the line “Game over, man! Game over!” spoken by Bill Paxton’s character Private Hudson in Aliens (1986).
