The first trailer has arrived for the WWII drama and Churchill biopic Darkest Hour. Directed by Joe Wright (Pan, 2015) the film will most likely be a nice companion piece to Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk as they both take place around the same time but on different sides of the fence. Darkest Hour has long been anticipated because Churchill is tackled by the thespian chameleon Gary Oldman (Léon, 1994). Churchill is not an easy part to tackle because his mannerisms and distinc way of speaking is so well known, but Oldman has a way of winning us over everytime. The title refers to a phrase coined by Chruchill that refers to the period between the fall of France in 1940 and the Nazi invasion of the Soviet Union in 1941 in which Great Britain stood alone against Germany. The film follows Churchill’s first time as prime minister and his first big confrontations with the enemy.

Darkest our will be in theatres early Winter 2017/18.
