Just after Lloyd (Jim Carrey) falls head over heels in love with beautiful stranger Mary (Lauren Holly) he sees her forget her suitcase at the airport. Both unemployed and unaware, he and best friend Harry (Jeff Daniels) emerge on a road trip to Aspen to deliver the suitcase back to Mary. Problem is she left it on purpose as it is full of ransom money and now the kidnappers are on the tail of Lloyd and Harry.
When the Farrelly Brother’s feature debut Dumb and Dumber came out it introduced us to their extreme and gross-out gags, broad stereotypes and a politically incorrect humour unlike anything we’d ever seen and they have continued in the same style with hits like There’s Something About Mary (1998) and Shallow Hal (2001). Carrey (Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, 1994) and Daniels (Paper Man, 2009) fit each other perfect and both master playing stupid to perfection. Their idiotic behavior and unawareness leaves those surrounding them visibly confused and us laughing as they set out on the road trip of a life time funded by the exploitation of a blind kid. Only reccomendable if you find fart/feces jokes funny, but if that is your thing there is only left to decide, which of the two are dumb and who are dumber? Let us know your answer in the comments.
After scamming Seabass to pay for their bill, Lloyd says he saw it on a movie. The movie he is speaking of is Something Wild (1986) and the guy who pulls the scam is played by Jeff Daniels.
