The movie adaptation of Jeff Kinney’s bestselling teen novel stays true to its origin by mixing the charming simple cartoons from the novel into the movie and by keeping the humour intact. Like the novel, the movie gives a good insight into human nature, especially that of an almost teen, without every patronizing its younger audience. But the transferring of the simple cartoon style to film the story looses some of the charm it has in paper. The cast all does a good job and fans of the book will enjoy recognizing their favourite characters in ‘real-life’ form, while wondering why they have created an extra one with Angie, but the movie never manage to reach the same height of funny.
Rowley’s mom is played by Robert Capron’s real life mom Kaye Capron.
