D3: The Mighty Ducks
Release year: 1996
Director: Robert Lieberman
Screenwriter: Kenneth Johnson, Jim Burnstein
Starring: Joshua Jackson, Jeffrey Nordling, David Selby, Elden Henson, Shaun Weiss, Marguerite Moreau, Vincent LaRusso, Heidi Kling
The hockey team receives scholarships to a prestigious prep school, where a whole new chapter of their life begins.
First off, ignore that Emilio Estevez (Young Guns, 1988) is the only cast name on the poster. His part in the movie is very limited, as his character turns the helm over to the school coach played by Nordling (Sully, 2016). He is still there though, just as his character is almost constantly present in the minds of the players. Jackson (Cursed, 2005) takes over the starring role and several of the original players return to reprise their parts yet again. The life at school takes some focus from the hockey theme but also ensures this isn’t just another replica of the first. Still entertaining.
Scott Whyte, who plays Scott, played Icelandic hockey player Gunnar Stahl in D2: The Mighty Ducks (1994).
