Professional hit-man Chev Chelios (Jason Statham) wakes up to the knowledge that he has been poisoned with a ‘Bejiing Cocktail’ which gives him approximately one hour to live. To survive longer, Chev must increase his adrenaline level, which means that when chasing the men who did this to him, stopping at anything will kill him.
Writing and directorial debut for Taylor and Neveldine (Gamer, 2009) is a high-octane action movie with a speed fitting for the premise of a man needing to move constantly to stay alive. Fittingly the lead is played by Statham (The Transporter, 2002) whose physique is perfect for the part but who also adds to the humour by playing the part straight letting the dialogue alone bring out the twinkle in the eye, something that only adds to the fun. Meanwhile Smart (Road Trip, 2000) is a charming choice for Chev’s flake girlfriend. The story is about as far out as Chev is and this should definitely be approach as light entertaining, but it is an action flick that stands out, both in premise but also in style. Neveldine and Taylor makes great use of split screen and even occasionally places words on walls behind the characters. The result is a stylish and fast-paced movie that will satisfy most action fans.
