When an old collegaue is killed on duty, FBI agent Malcolm Turner (Martin Lawrence) once again goes undercover. Disguised as ‘Big Momma’ he gets inside the main suspects house as a nanny and soon he is struggling criminals as well as household chores.
The sequel to Lawrence’s (Bad Boys, 1995) was by many deemed unnecessary and was panned by the critics, but in many ways the movie works better than the first in the now franchise. Going undercover as Big Momma in a household brings up several ways to excel comically and Lawrence grabs them all. From juggling toddlers, grumpy teens and cooking, Big Momma is truly tested and to much amusement. Several scenes brings out laughs and with early parts for Dennings (Thor, 2011) and Moretz (Kick-Ass, 2010) as two of the children, the movie is even free of the to often seen ‘poor-children-acting’ syndrome. Recommendable for anyone who likes a good action comedy with emphasis on the comedy.
Lowell Ganz, Babaloo Mandel & Nicholas Stoller provided uncredited rewrites to Don Rhymer’s script.
